Finally, a Fence!Six weeks to the day after the wind/tornado took out our fence, we finally have a new one. It wasn't bad not having a fence for a while, and we toyed with the idea of going fence-less (gasp! In Plano?) but watching the alley traffic pass by and gazing on garbage cans strengthened the case for a fence. Adopting Chip cinched it. ![]() The new front gate has a pretty arch. It will be stained in 2-3 weeks, after the wood has a chance to get used to its new situation in life. The double-board trim adds a posh touch to the 6" wide cedar. Kudos to Bob Durone, Horizon Projects, and his crew. I'll be happy to recommend them to anyone who wants a handsome fence.

Indian GardenDinner tonight was taken at the Indian Garden in Burgess Hill. Things started off with a couple of very crispy pappadom and sauces I couldn't begin to name. One was obviously yogurt based and the other a kind of chutney but other than being very good I couldn't tell you what they were called. To go with the pappadom I had a Kingfisher beer. Outside the restaurant was a relatively quiet street and bright blue sky. Inside it was "typical" indian furnishings and employees with impenetrable indian accents. Next up was some really good keema nan filled with thinly sliced red lamb inside. It was a little odd just because I'd never had nan filled with a continuous layer of "meat" inside and I wonder how they did that. It was good though, especially with the yogurt sauce. Halfway through the nan the chicken tikka vindaloo arrived with some pulau rice that smelled and tasted wonderful. I was warned that the vindaloo was hot but it really wasn't that spicy although the spiciness it did have built pleasantly as I made my way through the dish. Yum.

Kings Head and Oak BarnStopped in the Kings Head pub for a pint and bite to eat but they only serve food for lunch. The bartender recommended going to the Oak Barn and was very helpful so I'm having a pint here before heading off to dinner. Decided to try John Smith's but probably won't try it again. It's billed as "Extra Smooth" but is really just flat. Next it was off to the Oak Barn and a pint of Fosters to start with. I was warned that football was on tonight and it would be very quiet. It was indeed quiet with the waitresses, one waiter and the too-serious manager bustling about the dining room and only a handful of tables filled. The food was very good and the environment very pretty with the sun coming into the wood filled room "just so" and a wood floor that just begs to be danced on. In fact, I might just have to do that on the way out. Dinner was composed of a veggie ravioli (a very large single) followed by salmon on a bed of olives and onion with the house merlot and trailed by cheesecake and Irish whisky. Ok, two Irish whiskys. Monday, May 19. 2008Burgess Hill in the evening6:40 and at The Friars Oak drinking a Guinness and waiting for some lamb curry. I landed about 7:30am, picked up the car and headed to Burgess Hill. Unfortunately I got a little turned around on the way to the B&B but got to see plenty of pretty scenery and it was a pretty day. I was trying to get to my B&B but ran across the client site I'll be working in this week so I decided to stop even though I hadn't showered and changed. That worked out fine since my contact was in T-shirt and jeans. Tomorrow it's all work and probably little play but I'm going to try to get out in the evening as it's looking like it's going to be gorgeous this week. Sleepy ChipI won't be posting pictures of the little guy all the time but this one is really cute. He went with us to the pet store and Starbucks followed by his first trip (with us) to the dog park. Now he's sacked out on the patio. Sunday, May 11. 2008Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Last modified on 2008-05-17 09:47
Lady McArthur's Fiery FareWe went to Scarborough Faire last weekend and one new item is definitely worth an extra mention. There's a hot sauce shop that's opened up at the faire and normally I wouldn't associate a renfest with peppers but in this case I'm glad it was there. Lady McArthur's Fiery Fare is a small shop full of jars of various hot sauces from very mild to take-your-head-off hot. Susan and I have been making a dent in the three jars we bought and while each are quite different from each other, they're all excellent. I highly recommend them if you like hot sauces of any kind. CRG demo at Colonial LodgeClub Rince Ghaelaigh put on another dance demo at Colonial Lodge this past Sunday and they've got a good dance floor going. It's a shame the residents aren't physically up to dancing cause they've got a good room for it. We did parts of the Clare Plain Set, the Four-Hand reel, some stepping about, a Two-Hand and the Duke Reel. Check out the pictures through the link... So what is the Kindle really like?I use my Palm TX all the time for reading books and watching movies and do so because it's small enough to carry everywhere and powerful enough to show full-screen video at full frame rates. It's useless for note taking thanks to the abomination known as Graffiti 2 (thanks a whole lot Palm) but still functions as an appointment reminder. So what about the Kindle? It's big. I couldn't put it in a pocket. On the other hand it does one thing and some think it does that one thing quite well. What's your opinion? Sunday, May 4. 2008Comment (1) Trackbacks (0) Scarborough FaireIt was a perfect day for Scarborough Faire on Saturday with temperatures hovering between 55 and 70 degrees and Susan and I got there just after opening at 10am and stayed until past closing. Emmy, April and Andi met us about 2pm and Andres and Luz Amalia arrived about 3pm. We caught Zilch the Tory Steller, Elephant riding and feeding by the girls. A fire-eating juggler whose name I didn't get. He does a very entertaining show. With final pictures in the rose garden. Several of us followed up by a late dinner at Maggiano's. Pictures on the cheapCome on, Maggiano's. You can do better than the cheap lights with the cords hanging over the pictures in your entry-way. *I* could do better than that and I don't charge your prices for dinner. Sheesh.
