I'd commented on some hawks riding some thermals and another person thought I'd said lighting the thermos. Obviously drug code.

Andres is waiting for me with a condom

This one I wish I'd been around to hear first-hand. Apparently Luz Amalia was teller her mother that Andres was waiting her her with Don (another gringo who went down for the wedding). She said "Andres me espera con Don" Unfortunately the word used in Cartagena for condom is condon and her mother thought that Andres was waiting for her with a condom! What? He can't wait until after the wedding?!!

Beware the butter monster

The mnemonic I came up with for remembering the word for butter (mantequilla) was manticore so naturally it became "beware the mantequilla butter monster". Ok, you definitely had to be there.

Gasket soup

Near the end of the trip we shared some seafood soup that had mostly rings of calamari in it that made it look just like soup made with small gaskets.
