Ireland picture of the dayProud Ram near Slieve League From our 2003 trip to Ireland This is past the halfway point of our last trip to Ireland. Will I have enough pictures to take us to the next one? Probably. Work is going to keep me very busy the next couple of weeks. Sunday, June 28. 2009Bored puppyPoor guy. It's too hot to be outside and his humans are being boring. I'm working in the living room so he's just going to settle in near my feet and wait for one of us to take a break and play with him. Such a sweet, patient boy. Sunday, June 28. 2009Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Defined tags for this entry: ireland

Ireland picture of the dayA bit of Ireland near the Old Mill. From our 2003 trip to Ireland This is past the halfway point of our last trip to Ireland. Tuesday, June 23. 2009Jupiter June 23, 2009It was another good morning for observing. I set up the scope at 4:30am and started out by observing Jupiter for a bit and using some fuzziness I saw along one edge to tweak the collimation of my scope. I know I can get better collimation out of it but I got as good as I could pending more practice. I moved on to M31 for a bit and attempted to find a couple of open clusters (no luck, probably the magnification was too high) before moving back to Jupiter and its moons Io, Ganymede and Europa in order outward from the planet. I tried to get a picture and was partially successful. It's a bit fuzzy but not too bad Technorati : astronomy, jupiter Sunday, June 21. 2009Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) What you know may be bullshitThis article on lactic acid buildup in the muscles due to exercise does a great job in giving an example of why so many times when people tell me something they "know" I frequently start asking questions about the background material. This leads them to think that I just don't believe them but it goes deeper than that. Susan and I took him out to the park last month and it was quite hot at the time (not the balmy 100 degrees it's been lately) and while we were getting cones for ourselves, we got a poochie cone for Chip. He loooooovvvvvved it.

We didn't get a good look at the signs they were carrying at first but saw that they had Petland on them. Our initial reaction was "shit yeah." We aren't even remotely fans of Petland and have never come out of their stores thinking anything nice about what we found. When we passed by their store my blood pressure went up and I had to stop to take a picture. As mentioned in the linked WFAA story this store has a particularly bad reputation. Stay away, just stay away. Further stories:

Saturn, June 15thI haven't come close to mastering taking a photo through my telescope yet. Heck, I haven't completely mastered aligning the thing but I have been having fun attempting shots of Jupiter and Saturn. The Moon has been relatively easy since it's so bright but the former two have presented a challenge. I got an "ok" shot of Saturn a couple of nights ago though... It was taken through the eyepiece with a Canon S400. If you look closely at the "left" side of Saturn you'll see a small dot that is one of its moons, Titan. One came through this week that sounds just a bit scary. Magnus Entertainment Club
