Cafe MalagaI've been on a Sangria kick ever since going to El Cerro in Orlando and Susan and I made it out to Cafe Malaga in McKinney for lunch on Saturday. It wasn't be best experience we've had there but the company was good and while the Sangria was bloody expensive, it was tasty. Unfortunately the ladies who have been running the cafe every other time we've been in were nowhere to be found and they'd left it in the hands of the men. This was a mistake. Not a fatal one, but not a good one either. I'll admit that I generally have a bias against waiters as they typically aren't as service oriented as women. This time was no exception. Froggies in OrlandoSo, what the H**l have I been up to since my last post? Workin' my ass off. I was at a customer site from the 11th through the 29th (and flying back on the 30th) with no real time to blog or really anything more interesting to share than status on the work I was doing. Since I don't blog about work, that didn't leave me with anything. On the other hand, the frogs in Orlando are cool and make a neat noise. Here's what they sounded like when I got back to my hotel on the second night.

A little over a week ago I flew from DFW to Phoenix and on the way through the security line at DFW the dude at the flashlight kiosk (you know, the guy who shines the UV light at your license expecting to find nothing in particular) made a point of telling people that they didn't need to take their liquids out of their carry-on bags to run through the scanner. Silly me, I'd already done that and had my baggie of contraband already in my laptop bag where it's easy to throw into the grey bin. No big deal, at least I could leave it there. I made a point of not assuming the Phoenix security would behave the same and had the baggie out when going back to DFW and as expected they didn't mention being able to leave it in my carry-on bag. On the other hand, I had to head out to Orlando this morning and since I was leaving out of the same damn terminal as when I was going to Phoenix I thought I'd be able to leave my baggie in my carry-on. Nooooo. There was a TSA guy wandering up and down the line reminding all the Mickey-heads that they had to take their liquids out and put them in the bin. Make up your damn minds! Sunset over the wingSo I'm on my way to Mesa, AZ and the flight starts out delayed an hour but at least I'm rewarded by a pretty sunset that lasts a looong time because we're headed West. Monday, June 30. 2008Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Defined tags for this entry: schnauzer

Chip meets his first babySaturday, June 28. 2008Antiques roadshowWe applied for tickets to the Dallas Antiques Roadshow several months ago and with our tickets in hand we went out Saturday morning with a typewriter, steam engine and ruler-like thing that we had no idea about. We dropped by my dads house and borrowed some earrings from my sister which were easily from the early 1900s. We arrived at the convention hall about 1:30 and entered the endless line at 1:45. Not too many of the CRG made it out but we did have me and Susan, Pam, Brandy and Billye so at least we had a half sets worth for a few set dances. A bunch of people associated with the Shandon school made it out as well which helped to fill the far end of the pub with people twirling and leaping about. We started off with a few set figures and then moved on the Walls of Limerick. A few more set figures and Susan and I got up to teach the kids and a few adults the Waves of Tory. It was a bit of a disaster but fun just the same. We also managed to drag a few of the Shandon adults through part of the Galway Half Set. There was a bit of stepping about as well
while Bob and David played through the afternoon.

The return (or end?) of BatteryGitSo some of you are aware of the joy that BatteryGeek has brought to my (& Susans) life. Recently I was contacted by someone claiming to be his soon to be ex wife and saying that Sean Murray had run off with the company leaving her with no money and millions in debt as he apparently used her credit to prop up the company.
Before responding to her I did a few net searches and found that even his neighbors dislike Mr. BatteryGit. Continue reading "The return (or end?) of BatteryGit"Sunday, June 15. 2008Chip + cheese = loveSunday, June 15. 2008Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Last modified on 2008-06-15 01:16

Final SCMA ceili of 2007/2008The 2007/2008 season is now over and the final ceili was a bunch o fun. We had slightly more than three sets worth and ran through the South Galway Half Set, as well as a back to back hornpipe we learned from Pat Murphy, most of the Cashel Set, Three Tunes and closed with the Siege of Ennis.
