i am searching for a list of sheap optical , laser and plate-suppliers!? the optics i want to buy , cost to much (200 $ for a mirror?) if i would get them, i have to pay more then 2500 $ for a little selfmade studio . 192.108.53.150

hi erkan.

Go back onto the link page under laser pointer holography. You'll find a few sites that have inexpensive optics such as Midwest Lasers. Integraf can sell you individual sheets of AGFA film which you can cut up into smaller pieces as well. Play your cards right and you should be doing holography for under $100 TOTAL.

Hi, I am just getting started with holography, and I dont know what type of film or holographic plate to use. I am going to be making a White Light Reflection Hologram, but I dont know where to get the materials needed, and how much it would be. I am going to try to produce the holograms with a laser pointer like you discuss, but I dont know if it will work. I have a Infiniter that runs off of 2 1.5 volt AAA bateries, and produces 4mw, and has a wavelength of 630-680. Will that work? I also have a smaller bullet laser pointer that runs off of 3 L1154 batteries, and produces 5mw, and also has a wavelength of 630-680. Which should I use and how could I make them better? Thank you for your time. NICK NAPIER 152.202.39.70

Hi! I'm in grade 12 right now and I'm doing a Science Fair Essay on holography. In grade nine I successfully made several holograms. So now, I'm wondering if anyone out here know of any web sites that can easily help me explain what exactly holography is. Thanks for your help!! 204.83.187.130

Steve Michael - Wed, Mar 10, 99 08:43:31 PM
Hi Terri: my site at www.3dimagery.com has a sphere on the front page linking to hologram sites explaining holography. Try http://www.holo.com/holo/book/book1.html. It should explain everything you need to know. 209.122.204.87

Steve Michael - Wed, Mar 10, 99 08:49:08 PM
Hi Nick: on my site www.3dimagery.com, I list the appropriate laser pointers I use that work well. You should try to stay at 650nm or 630nm because above those wavelengths, the film become less sensitive. I recommend the Infiniter 200 from Quarton for $15 (www.3dimagery.com/pointer4.html). Run it on 2 AA batteries as I instruct and you'll get atleast 5mW out of it. On my page www.3dimagery.com/point.html, click on film and plate alternatives, and I list two companies that supply the recording materials you need and the prices are very reasonable. Good luck. 209.122.204.87

I'm really a novice, so here's my question. Was it holography used to make the great special effects at the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland? That dated to the 1960s and I wonder if the technology was advanced enough to create ghouls etc. Anyone know? 209.209.15.146

Steve Michael - Thu, Mar 11, 99 06:16:59 PM
I've read that the head in the haunted mansion was not a hologram. In 1960, the laser hadn't been invented yet, so holograms were not practical at that time. 209.122.238.142

Paul Kline - Fri, Mar 12, 99 04:31:14 PM
The Haunted Mansion was created by posing a plate of glass between you and the "haunted" room. Off to the side was a room with all the "ghosts" and the glass reflected those to your eye. 207.28.190.119

I've already posted this message on "PGF-03" but I prefer to repost it here!!! Hi all! we are an Austrian students group trying to make holograms. We use either a 3 mW 675nm diode or a 35 mW 690nm diode, PGF-03M plates and the GP-2 developper for our tries. But we only get photographic representations of the objects we holography (coins) without any depth effect. could you please tell us what's happening? 195.3.127.140

Benjamin - Check your table geometry (optical setup) and vibration isolation. See www.3dimagery.com for good geometry setups, and an isolation table. If all else fails it is your laser pointer(s) in that it (they) produce(s) "flat" holograms. Setup a Michelson Interferometer and see how far you can move the mirror and still see bright interference fringes. If you fail to get any interference fringes, or the distacnce is very short in which they are visible, or they are dim, it is the laser. If not, then your table or optical setup is not working, although it could still be your laser. See if you can get access to a good 'old HeNe laser at least at 2mW and try to holograph from there. If it still doesn't work, then check your table and optics once more. You are doing better than I ever did! I would have loved to get any image, but the first dozen trys I came up with a big nothing. You are dojng great, and it is only a matter of time until you see that first amazing hologram pop out (or away) at (from) you. Good Luck! If you don't know how to do the above, you can contact me at: 110336.2217@compuserve.com I would be very glad to help you and give you step-by-step instructions! I have been making holograms for the summer, but I have been having trouble with image plane holograms. I am using BB-640 with a 10 mW He-Ne. The one projection hologram I made is blurry, and I only had it spaced around 1/2 to 1in from the master. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Should I try presoaking with TEA? I am using a single beam setup with the Master behind the unexposed plate. I am using the Pyro processing with the dichromate bleach. (2min develope, rinse, bleach clear +30sec, photflo) I am also having trouble setting up a transmission->reflection image plane. My exposure time is 15-10sec with a 5in diameter beam spread. e_kelsic@hotmail.com 216.160.135.201

I have to ask one question first: what was the distance of the object from the plate/film when you recorded the tranmission hologram? By the way Frank, why is this page displaying greater than 800x600? 216.164.237.46

ok, im a novice at this, but is it true that if you change the laser color to blue instead of red it burns? and does anyone in here has an icq number? cuz i really need someone to explain this to me, where i live there arent much things about holograms... either enlish o espaÒol is be fine..thanks 148.233.78.124

Steve Michael - Fri, Sep 03, 99 07:41:14 PM
Hi Rene: It's the power output in milliwatts or watts that determines whether a laser will burn your skin, for example. My he-ne 35mW is just slightly warm to my skin. A 100mW I worked with is warm. You probably need around 500mW of red to start burning paper or skin, but don't quote me on it. It probably takes less power output to warm the skin with shorter wavelengths like blue considering how UV effects our skin in sunlight. 216.164.133.190

I am new to the business, but What i want to know is how do i show a holographic picture in the air... is it possible to do it with laser pointer.. if so what size it would appear in the air... and where can i find the films to buy.... Please Email me the answer if anybody interested.. culku@yahoo.com 212.12.134.186

Hello everyone. I am new to Holography but I hope someone can answer my question. Is it possible to analyze an object, afterward taking all that data and then recreating it 3-dimesionally using light and technology. Resulting in seeing the image in front of you in the air rather than on a plate or film. Does this technology exsist yet? 205.188.197.188

Eric - Sat, Jan 15, 00 04:33:05 PM
A hologram only records the standing wavefront of the object, so it can not be made to stand out in mid air, and be visible from all sides. However, holograms can be made to stand out in front of the plate, and they are seen by looking directly at the plate. Hope this is helpful. 209.181.67.217

I want to see the person I am talking to over the computer in my living room. Can a hologram be used in conjunction with a camera to create this effect or is this star trek thinking. Thanks, my first day of research into holograms. 24.17.118.110

Can anyone reccommend holographic equipment suppliers _in the UK _ please? 212.159.75.69

Steve Michael - Fri, Mar 31, 00 07:55:49 PM
Hi Karl: To date, a hologram can not be transmitted via a camera/video and seen three dimensionally. It can be seen 2 dimensionally. Yes, it is star trek thinking, but let's keep thinking that way......that's how dreams become reality. 207.172.11.147

Hi there... I am kinda new to all this... can someone tell me a link or something that has information on how the laser hologram is actually created. is it a freestanding visual effect? visible from any angle? I am going to keep reading but right now things seem very cryptic to me so far... 161.109.128.26

Hello to all...my partner and I are attempting to create a new product using a holographic projection as it's main theme..illustrating a burning fire. Our questions are...can a motion image of this fire be created and projected from it's source to a point no more than 1 foot away, and can this be done feasably and/or at what costs? Also, what would this require in the way of mirrors, lasers, etc, in order to project and possibly modify the intensity and color of the flame. We would really appreciate any insight in this matter. 207.69.114.136

Using the shoebox/laser pointer method will I... a. need a laserpointer to view the hologram or can I use track lighting of some sort? b. be viewing an image that appears in front of the film plane or behind? c. need to process my own film or can it be done for me? d. be using a 35mm camera to record the imagery? Also...and this is related to questions a. and b. what do I need to cheaply produce a hologram that appears to be in front of the film plane and can be viewed with non laser/diode lighting? 12.77.122.82

hello Cem ulku, Mark Woodland, Karl Mil denberger holograms produced in space is posable and has been done. try diffrent aproch use light waves, conflicting beames, high frequinces and dont git in the path of the light high frequinces penatrate body use thrid cancelation frequince to create walk through hologram. lastly high power computer once you figer out how to do it an imageing system will need to be programed to produce motion holography. good luck 129.115.55.115

I would like to know if it is possible to create an image through a laser projection but having the image on the same angle as the laser beem, ex: if the laser beem is horizontal, the image appearing horizontal on the beam, flat.....anybody know, please? 144.82.100.120

Colin Kaminski - Fri, Mar 23, 01 05:58:51 PM
Traditional holography uses the film as a window. You must be looking at the plate to see an image either in front of or behind the plate. I do not believe there is a way to make an image with out looking at the film. But who knows what is in the future. 64.167.150.142

Ebay has super cheep helium neon lasers that some are broken. You could get if fixed some were and save a lot of money or you can get a working one. They are also used in some photocopiers 64.12.96.200
