Sven

Hi, I'm a beginner and using BB-640-plates from HRT (http://www.holographic-materials.de/) and also this development-solutions (Rehalogenating Bleach System ). But I don't understand the reason for the "anti-printout", and also how long i should water the plate between the chemicals. How can i find out if my exposure-time is right ? Greetings from Germany ([email protected])

Hi Sven, it's recomended to use the anti-printout solution for appr. 1 min. with agitation, then a brief dip in water (deionized if you have). It prevents that the plate get dark after dev. and bleach (I'm not using this solution and the images is still very bright.), maybe the plate will printout if it's exosed to much light ? If you are making reflection holograms I will recommend you to use the Pyrochrome Process and Dichromate bleach, and without the anti-printout solution. How to find out about exposure-time is easy if you have a photo-meter, otherelse you have to do some exposure-tests with your plates and take some experience about that. It depends on the output-power (mW)of your laser, but you can divide your test-plate (BB-plate) in several fields and expose them separate for 5-10-20sec. Then you will be able to see whats the right exposure-time for you. Hope it works out for you, you should be able to make very bright holograms with the BB-plates. Please ask for more info. if you have some more problems.By the way, do you have some holography-books, if not I will recommend you to buy One of Graham Saxby's books (Practical holography).......ronny 130.67.15.242

I have 2.5" X 2.5" BB-640 plates, using a pointer laser, single beam, and a bright object. The laser pattern is over the plate only. The trouble is I can not find an exposure time that works. I have tried 4, 6, 8, 10, 30, 60 seconds and no image. Except one very very faint image at 6 seconds. Any suggestions. Thanks 205.188.200.42

Hei Larry, If your laser-pointer is suitable for holography (?) you should be able to make very good holograms on BB-640 plates. It's a lot of things that can make problems when making holograms. Therefor you have to evaluate every stage in your set-up, chemical processing and your laser. I'll recommend you to look at Steve Michael's web-pages. Otherelse you can contact me on ([email protected]) and I will guide you step by step to your first beautiful hologram. Feel free to e-mail your questions to me.. 130.67.15.242

Hi Larry. Have you had any luck with your exposure times. I seem to be having the same problem. I'm using the Infiniter 200 with its original batteries and a throw distance of 30 inches and a -12mm dbl concave lens. I got a faint and blurred image after a 2.5 minute exposure. But at 3 minutes, the image worsened and is hardly anything. There is also a significant difference between the two dry plates in color. The 2.5' plate is clear with a bright yellow tint. The 3'plate is tan with a more grayish tint. Is this a sign of overexposure? Can anyone help me on this one? 140.160.210.11

I've been using the BB-640 plates with the Infiniter200. I got a very nice hologram with a 4x5in plate, 1 min soaking in 10%TEA, and a 25sec exposure. Development was SM6 till density of 2.5, about 2min, and the dichromate bleach till clear.Hop e this helps. 209.181.67.217

I am using the following: Cheap-o laser pointer ($7.99 from Sam Goody Records..don't know the brand; rates at < 5mW). Kodak D-19 Developer. Kodak Hypo Clear. Kodak Rapid Fix. Kodak Photo Flo 200. Kodak Indicator Stop Bath. No bleach at all. 2.5"x2.5" BB-640 plates. I haven't changed _any_ of the solutions for two weeks (I know, I know, but I'm _lazy_!) I do _not_ have _any_ antivibration mechanism in place...just a workbench on a basement floor. I have achieved some _very_ nice ->transmission<- holograms at 15-17 seconds. I only develop the plates for about 20 to 40 seconds, depending on the density (I don't let my plates get too dark). I think starting with transmission holograms is _much_ easier! You don't need bleach and the viewing process is much easier when starting. -Aaron Freeman 207.223.212.80
