I've been using Krylon flat black and ultra flat black for painting the back of reflection holograms. Has anyone found something better? Anyone tried water based paint?

I used Krylon for years and found it satisfactory. I wish that there was a backing material that would protect the emulsion. Has any one tried polythane?

Guys, why you are using paints? We in GEOLA (www.geola.com) are using for that black Oracal (black self sticking paper). We are sticking it on films and on glass. Very easy, quick and chip.

Hi Stas: with using your method, you don't find any imperfects in the image like bubbles, dust particles, or any
type of distractions that distract from the image? If not, that's great. 216.164.237.46

I'v tested the Oracal folie. Instead of using a expensive laminating machine it's possible to do as follows: dip the holoplate in a water bath with Photo Flo and squeege, add water (lukewarm) on the holoplate and Oracal folie (remember to use Photo Flo), place the folie on to the holoplate and use a scrape to squeege the folie until there is no more water left between folie and plate. Let it dry, and here is the bad News--> for me it took appr. 48 hours to dry. The image was back again bright and monochromatic. I'v not tryed to use the folie without the water. Well, I'm not sure about if I will continue this process in the future, it's much easyer to spray the plate. If there is some better way of using this folie I'm glad to hear...ronny 130.67.15.250

I tried the Oracal last night. I just stuck it on the back of a film. I didn't try wetting it as Ronny Andreassen did. Other than a few bubbles it worked pretty well. I didn't use a high quality hologram, just one I made in haste last night to try out the Oracal. I intend to try again tonight using a bit more care. Where do the rest of you get your Oracal? I got about one square foot or so as a free sample from Advantage Sign Supply - www.advantagesignsupply.com They sell it in a roll for about $45. 137.244.166.69

I tried the Oracal agin. I made a good hologram last night (using a $7.99 pointer), I put Oracal on half of it and painted the other half. I don't see much difference in image quality between the two. 137.244.166.69
