Filmless Holograms

I'm a student doing some introductory work in holography, and my professor mentioned something about a simple holographic setup without films. Did I mishear what was said or is there really a setup like this?

May be you should ask your professor first of all. 194.172.29.100

Well, I think you never hear your professor wrongly, there is such a holographic setup without films. We are doing laboratory work now that uses glass plates and CDs to capture images and we call this a filmless holography. 203.124.1.80

I would like to find out from somebody how holograms are captured on CD's 152.163.213.178

Sure digital holography is here, at least digital interferometry (which is a type of holography). As long as the resolution of recording media is finer than the interference pattern you are generating no worries. i have been doing phase shifting speckle interferometry for over a year now with great results. The project is to do interferometry on a composite honeycomb payload deck for a satellite. It started off using a NRC thermoplastic camera, then a Tavix and finally got rid of real time interferometer and replaced it with a CCD camera. I can image at about 1 frame per second. the image is a bitmap of the displacement (Z) as a function of X,Y which can be plotted out to get the change of shape like an un-wrapped interferogram. id like to know a simple way for holography without films too, something i can make at home, perhaps not ultimately the real holograph, but something like it,also how can we use cds? 216.236.222.35
