is it ok to use green leds as a safelight for films such as the bb-640 series? i have heard that it is ok to use them but, how many and what type and what distance from the film should they be. I am asking and not testing because i do not have enough plates to waste testing a safelight. Thanks niall

You should be able to use LED's, just as long as they emmit no red light, but it almost seems eaiser and cheaper to use a flashlight and green filter paper, from edmund scientific or a "LimeLight" from home depot with some filter paper over that. 64.20.255.57

No, you shouldn't use a green LED unless you use a green filter over it. Green LEDs emit a LOT of red and other colors too. I ruined some holograms by assuming the light from a "pure green" LED (525 nm)was quasi-monochromatic. Put the best green filter you can find over it. To check how much red light it is giving off, buy a Valentine candy box. Take the plastic wrap off and look thru it at your safelight or LED. If you see any red, so does your hologram. I checked the Valentine wraps with a spectrometer, the dark are VERY red- the lighter shade transmits a little orange and yellow, and no green. If you see any red, you don't have a good safelight. 216.46.36.216
