FAQ - Would anyone like to help?

Colin

I was thinking we could use a Frequently Asked Questions file for this group. I can undertake some of the simpler questions and the overall organization but I would not try to undertake it without the help of some of the more experienced members of this list.

Would anybody like to help?

Colin, how would it differ from this forum? 209.47.102.147

The FAQ would directly and simply answer the more common questions like "where can I get plates", and "how long do you soak in triethanolamine". A FAQ would set down the discussion topics and etiquitte. 64.63.88.51

I just got back from vacation. The FAQ would answer questions like "Do you have to look into the film to see a hologram?" and other simple questions. We could it as a way to pool some of our knowledge and have a single reference like "How much spread can I expect from a 10x objective or a -9 mm FL lens. It can consolidate answers we already have and provide a framework to add new information. What it won't do is provide answers to "What chemistry do I use to develop AFGA film?" As those questions are ever changing and the forum benefits from as many answers as possible.

If anyone is interested I will start to set up a frame work. 64.167.148.84

Colin, I think it's a good idea. Perhaps with an emphasis on the "practical", as opposed to the theoretical. Both can be included, but a quick trip to a site such as http://come.to/makeholograms provides many answers to the basics.

I think it would be great if we had a FAQ that addressed "How to" questions, good sources for supplies and materials, advice on techniques, etc. - as well as the common questions. In other words a FAQ for people who want to start making holograms, or for people who want to make better holograms. 209.47.102.102

I agree. I also would like a glossery. I often I find a new work for a concept I already know. Also perhaps descriptions of books so one could asertain if a book will cover what a person expects. 64.170.192.25
