Hello. I'm looking for this IC to finally build my D/S kit
that was sent to me incomplete an eternity ago, ie without
the IC (after some emails to FdF without any response, i
just abandonned, kissed my dollars goodbye and bought a 14
mW module elsewhere). Now i have some time in my hands i
would like to build the driver, i still have the components,
which are useless without the IC.
Many thanks if you can sell me one, or just indicate me a
good source (looks like Sharp doesn't sell it anymore).

If you are stuck, these obsolete component dealers
claim to have some available. I have not dealt with
either of them and don't know about their minimum
order policies, reliability, etc. etc.

From all the e-mails i've read about D&S lasers, i have
come across very few satisfied customers.
Frank Defreitas is either a crook or extremely disorganised.
Either way, never buy anything from him. 62.31.224.1

Reading the large number of complaints about D&S Lasers,
I advise everyone to NEVER buy ANYTHING from F Defreitas 62.31.224.1

Mr. Peters, it sounds like your advice and accusations are
based on your ability to read emails. If you've dealt
directly with him, why don't you say so? Then your comments
may possibly have merit.
Do you benefit from this forum? Do you benefit from the
information found throughout this web site? Have you
listened to the multitude of interviews with prominent
people in the field of holography that can be found in the
holotalk section? DeFreitas does quite a bit for holography
in a large number of other ways too, and has been doing so
for many years.
I've dealt directly with him and the service was very slow.
But I don't think Frank DeFreitas is a crook. With some
justification that leaves disorganized. Yes it's a shame
for those negatively affected. In many ways there's no
excuse.
But a blanket attack on someone's character, based
indirectly as they evidently are in your case, and
especially without acknowledging the big picture, are
pretty small.

Well, i don't want to stir up some old and bad memories, but
the fact is that i ordered a $135 DS laser kit on july 7th
2000. My check was cashed right away. I ordered the
diode and the barrel separately from other companies as
indicated, and received them a few days later. After waiting
and waiting, and a bunch of emails asking what happened
without response, i finally received my kit monthes later,
october 2000. And then i discovered that there was no IC in
it, so the kit was useless. Emails again, just one response,
and since then: nothing. We are in 2002. This IC is worth 1
dollar i think. But without it, i cannot do anything.
So that's it for my 135 dollars. I hope Mr de Freitas used
them well. I'm not even angry anymore - i'm a pretty zen
kind of guy. But I personally will never buy anything from
him ever.
I still like his holotalk and diode laser serie of articles.
I was checking his website everyday at this time, waiting
for the next article. I found that amazing to do hobby
holography with diodes, it was like a dream - no need for a
HeNe anymore. I bought his two small booklets, i even asked
him about his workshops, because i wanted to participate. So
i really trusted him, as i trusted all the holographers from
who i bought something (holograms, plates, whatever). He's
the only one who abused my trust.
Anyway. I don't even care about the money lost. But i don't
like the lack of honesty, especially from a fellow
holographer. I don't like people who protect themselves
behind email silence when there is a problem. I don't like
people who start a business and cannot deal with it.
Tom B: thanks for these URLs. I already contacted two
electronic part dealers which listed the IR3C07 on their
sites, and they don't have it.

A while back, the following link was posted on alt.lasers
by Tom Burgess: http://www.laserdrivers.com/ This is a
company called iC-Haus Corporation. Later, I saw an ad by
them in either Laser Focus World or Photonics Spectra (I
can't remember which) which stated that their driver is
a "replacement" for the Sharp IR3C07. I don't know if it's
pin-for-pin compatible with the IR3C07, or if they have a
minimum order policy.
If you continue to have troubles getting the IR3C07 or a
replacement, I can loan you mine so that you can (at least)
test your laser. 216.65.161.235

Jonathan,
Most amateur holographers are strapped for cash, and can
ill afford to lose their hard earned cash to D & S Lasers.
No matter how much good DeFreitas has done for holography,
his company is breaking the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
rules on mail order goods:
"the Commission's Mail Order Rule requires
mail-order merchants to:
-- ship orders within the time promised in
advertisements
for the goods or in catalog listings or, if no time is
specified, within 30 days of receiving a "properly
completed" order;
-- for orders that cannot be shipped on time, notify
the
consumers of the new shipping dates and give them the
option
of cancelling for full refunds (for consumers who do
not
respond, sellers can presume they have agreed to a
delay of
up to 30 days);
-- if a consumer cancels, make a full refund within
seven
days for cash, check or money-order sales, and within
one
billing cycle for charged sales;
-- for orders where revised shipping dates cannot be
met,
send consumers second notices and, unless the consumers
expressly consent to the second delay, cancel their
orders
(thus, for second delay notifications, the presumption
applicable to the first notification -- that consumers
still
want the merchandise -- is reversed)."
The above statement can be found at
http://www.ftc.gov/opa/predawn/F93/mailorder1.htm
I suggest that all dissatisfied customers of D & S file
their complaints online at http://www.ftc.gov 62.31.64.2
