Forum posts database

Hello,

Since my knowledge is null but I do not like beeing a lurker here, I thought I might contribute in a better way.

I have built a database that can hold the posts in this forum, along with some additional information. I use it for my own reference, but thought I might share it with everyone here. The database is an Access file and at this time is in draft shape, but I think you could give it a shot, and if you find it useful, I will keep working on it to improve it and populate it with more info.

At this time, it has the following features:

- includes: complete posts texts, threads info, posters info; an special field for "keywords" to enhance search and filter capabilities is included

- graphics/photos and other media is also included

- books, websites, suppliers and more references are directly extracted from the database to separate tables/forms for easy browsing, including descriptions and keywords

However, it has the following limitations at this point:

- since I am populating it "by hand", at this time it only includes the first 200 and something posts to the forum, which, in turn is already a good wealth of info!

- the search/filter capabilities are not built in into the database interface, you need a little access knowledge to perform searches (I recommend form based filtering)

- the info in the "extra" tables (references, books, suppliers...) is to be improved (no comments included yet, no classification provided).

I would greatly appreciate if you download it and play around a little, and provide me your comments. This has taken (and still will) some effort, and I would like to know if this is worth for someone else so I get the spirit to finish it, and mostly feed it with all the remaining posts.

You can find it at:

arturoperez.eresmas.net/holoforum.zip (1.5Mb)

I would appreciate your contributions in any of the following ways:

a) comments, criticism and suggestions

b) populating any of the "additional" tables: books, holographers, suppliers... if you do so, you can email me the exported table and I will integrate it for everyone to access.

c) if you spot some error, or want info on you removed, let me know.

Thanks, and please, take a look!

Arturo.

I could not open the zip file. I was given the error that 22 bytes were missing. I opened the smaller file you emailed me and it looks very good. Thank you for your work. I can't wait to see the full version.

I had a chance to play with this at work and I like it very much. I don't know how many people have Access but if you do it is worth checking out.

Thank you for your efforts.

Thanks Colin,

I am glad you find it useful! I will keep working on it and including more and more posts (at this time I have a new version, in which I included a table/form for developing formulas and proccesses).
