"The New York Times tells the story of a Connecticut-based company called HoloTouch that is developing input devices that literally "float in the air". The technology will be licensed for information kiosks in New York city. Some other sample applications are available from the company's Web site. HoloTouch already managed to secure the patent on its technology."

I've had these guys in my "sci-fi" patent list for a while..They haven't actually built anything even remotely like the pics on their website but are licensing the "concept". You simply add money and technology to get your products. Amazing what you can get the patent office to stamp these days...

There are some interesting papers at the MIT website: http://spi.www.media.mit.edu/groups/spi/publications.html

WOW! I RUSHED OUT AND BOUGHT ONE!!August 4 2003, 11:01 PM

I RUSHED OUT AND BOUGHT ONE! I used Holographic money... ok, not the 'virtual' image of Holographic money, but the 'Real' image stuff. Well, actually... I bought a HUNDRED of them! and they will be delivered in 2050, as soon as the Holographic Teleporter in my Holographic house can reconstruct them! You'll see!... if you are standing with your eyes at the right angle that is. And, surprisingly... I didn't exactly rush 'out' and 'buy' them either, NO! its more convenient then that... I merely ordered them through the HoloPsychic channel on Ebay, so I got to choose what color bandwidth (over a billion available soon!) and which hand I plan to actuate someone else's matrix reading input sensor with, (which is available separately, with just the right interface to latch my thumb under and press my nose against... if I see fit!). Meanwhile I am the MAN!... and 'WILL' have 100 of these available to my continuing imaginary presence on the planet Earth, and YOU.... don't! ...so there. NOW... don't bother to try and top me!?.... you'll never make it!, for even if you go out, (or don't go out), and pay for, (with real or virtual Holographic Bucks)....100 units of your very own!..... lol lol SO WHAT!... you see, I have also ordered, to arrive simultaneously!, a 'HoloGENETIC Remake', so that I'll have 100 fingers! to actuate the 100 HoloTouch pads!, using the 100 matrix reading sensors... made by someone else?!, ....when they are teleported through my InstoHolographic Quantum Re-regulator!

.... so you see, I am giving anyone who tries to ‘one up on me’, ....the Holographic finger!, ....infact, virtually all 100 of them!

: )

So, if you break one of these holo-pads will you get a complete keypad for every broken piece? Becuase I don't need a hundred fingers, I just get one keypad and break it into a hundred pieces! In fact, if these things are ever on an ATM (cash machine), I'll just enter a hundred dollars, break the keypad into a hundred pieces and voila! Instant 10,000 dollars! One thing troubles me, though. He mentions that the keypad is "scanned" by IR to determine the position of your fingers. If the hologram has a spatial frequency capable of diffracting IR, I may think I'm pressing one button and actually be pressing another. These things need to be government-certified to a "Does not diffract scanning wavelength" standard.

I think the 'point' of this Patent is, now they can wait until someone actually invents the thing...and then steal away the profits.
