Denton Ceili September 11, 2004
'Twas grand, just grand. The Lone Star Ceili Band played wonderfully, entertaining
dancers and observers with lively, traditional Irish and Scottish tunes. The
organizers brought yummy refreshments, including tasty deviled eggs, home made breads,
meat and cheese nibblies, and lots of home baked brownies and cookies. Some folks wore
their Scottish regalia, always a treat to see.
There were between 80 and 100 people there, which filled the hall nicely without overcrowding.
Dancers came from at least three local Scottish clubs and four or so Irish groups plus various
folk dance and university organizations. Young and young at heart, everyone had a smile for
their fellow dancers, as the "old pros" helped newcomers learn the moves. The program featured
Scottish and Irish dances ranging from simple circle dances (picture a circle of 70 people!)
to difficult material demonstrated by the most experienced dancers. The end of the evening
came too soon, leaving us wanting more!
If you joined us at the ceili or wished you had, the sponsor groups would love to have you
join us to learn the steps and dances in our weekly classes. Beginners are always welcome.
